About us

George Brown College welcomed little over 2,000 students when it first opened its doors in 1968. In addition to programmes in construction, early childhood education, dentistry services, and the culinary arts, which they still teach, George Brown once offered programmes like signwriting and watchmaking, which may or may not be as relevant now. They even had a marine engineering programme, which, believe it or not, educated students for professions at sea. Since then, the student body has swelled to approximately 30,000 students. People come to George Brown from all over the Greater Toronto Area, the country, and the world to learn the skills and get the experience they need to excel in the workplace.

Since 2004, George Brown has more than doubled in size, expanded their international collaborations, and enhanced their commitment to building Toronto's cultural, economic, and social fabric under the direction of current President Anne Sado. Students who study in downtown Toronto will live, learn, and work in the heart of the country's largest and most diverse economy. George Brown College offers over 160 career-focused certifications, diplomas, postgraduate, and degree programmes, making it one of Canada's largest full-time college programs.

Most of their programmes include a field education component that allows students to work and learn alongside industry partners who may one day become their future employers. Because of George Brown College's location, students have access to major employers for field education and networking. It also means they'll be able to take advantage of the other benefits of attending school downtown, such as proximity to fantastic cafes, restaurants, shopping, and Toronto attractions. The three campuses — Casa Loma, St. James, and Waterfront — are all conveniently accessible by public transportation and are encircled by Toronto's cycling network's bike lanes.
