About Us
Sheldon Jackson College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located on Baranof Island in Sitka, Alaska. The college is operated by an independent board of trustees and remains in historical covenant to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Sheldon Jackson College is committed to serving the needs of the Alaska Native community.
The campus community serves approximately 250 full and part time students. The 8:1 student-faculty ratio enables the students and distinguished faculty to meet in a small, personal, interactive learning environment.
Sheldon Jackson College is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, and is authorized to offer courses in Alaska by the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education. The Teacher Education programs are certified by the National Association for State Directors of Teacher Education Colleges (NASDTEC). Academic programs include Elementary and Secondary Education, Environmental Science, Business Administration, Human Services, Outdoor Leadership, Liberal Arts, and Individualized Studies. The campus is nestled between rugged mountain peaks and the Pacific Ocean, offering students an opportune environment in which to live and learn.
